Megabonk is a pretty straightforward game; players walk around a map trying to find a boss portal while collecting XP from kills and leveling up to improve their character’s stats and arsenal. However, in order to master it and beat all its quests, challenges, and bosses, fans will have to understand everything about the game and master it.

This guide provides some handy tips and tricks that will help players on their journey through the Forest and the Desert in Megabonk. By applying the tips on a run, they can become more efficient and survive for longer.

Increase Difficulty and Elite Spawns

Don't Be Afraid to Crank Up the Heat

While it may not sound very appealing at first, increasing difficulty is a crucial part of Megabonk. Whether players are looking for Greed Shrines, increasing Difficulty or Elite Spawns at Charge Shrines, or interacting with the Curse Statue, there are various ways to increase difficulty in Megabonk.

Even though it may be more challenging to complete a level with a higher Difficulty, it increases the number of enemies and Elites, which is a great way to get more XP and level up or get free chests from elite kills.

Farm Silver and Complete Quests First

Gain Access to More and Better Weapons, Characters, and Tomes

At the start of Megabonk, players will have quite a restricted set of weapons, characters, items, and tomes at their disposal. To unlock more of these and diversify their options, they have to complete quests and farm Silver, as this is what allows them to purchase the unlockables.

This will make it possible for them to banish, skip, and refresh their tomes and weapons; it’ll also give them more choices, add replayability to the game, and open the door for all sorts of character builds.

Invest in Silver Gains

Buy Silver Upgrades in the Shop

The first upgrade option that players will get in the shop is Silver. While it’s not an exciting upgrade, as it only increases the amount of Silver that players will receive each run, it’s required to purchase all other upgrades.

Gamers have to spend Silver to gain Silver. Even though it may feel like they’re delaying purchasing other upgrades or unlockables, they’re making their life easier in the long run, as each run from then on will be more profitable.

Kill Now, Collect Later

Be Efficient in the Early Game

The early game is the easiest stage of a run, and it will determine whether players make it alive to the stage boss. While taking down enemies and collecting XP is crucial, players should focus on exploring. This way, they can activate Greed Shrines and Charge Shrines, interact with Moai Shrines, and grab any pots that they see in order to quickly improve their arsenal.

Sooner or later, they will find a Shrine of Succ or a magnet item and retrieve any scattered XP that they might’ve left along the way. This is particularly important if gamers choose the XP Tome; the more they level it up, the more powerful XP drops will be afterward.

Time Your Powerups

You Might Not Want to Grab Them Right Away

Just like it was mentioned in the previous entry, players should use the powerups and shrines around them at the right time in order to maximize how much they gain from them – this doesn’t only apply to the magnet. Here is what each powerup does and when it’s best to use them:

  • Health – Restores health. Best used when below 50 percent health.
  • Agility – Increases movement speed momentarily. Quickly explore the map to find the boss portal or to gather nearby XP shards.
  • Rage – Increases attack speed momentarily. Helps take down enemies. Best used when more enemies have spawned on the map.
  • Coin – Increases gold gain per kill. Helps farm gold. Best used when more enemies have spawned on the map.
  • Protect – Provides protection against enemy attacks. Best used to activate shrines or activate the campfire when overwhelmed by a swarm.
  • Magnet – Grabs all XP Shards left on the map. Best used after exploring a great area of the map while taking down enemies.
  • Nuke – Kills enemies in the surrounding area. Deals great damage to bosses. Best used to farm XP shards a few moments after a swarm spawns.
  • Clock – Stops enemies in time momentarily. Helps get kills and clear an area.

Keep An Eye on the Mini-Map

Head Straight To Your Priorities

The mini-map in Megabonk is quite minimalist. However, it gives plenty of information, which not only helps players navigate through the Forest or Desert but can also tell them exactly where to go based on their current focus. Here is what each symbol on the mini-map means:

  • Green square – Succ, Charge, or Moai Shrines or Shady Guy NPC
  • White dot – Pots
  • Yellow square – Chests
  • Faded red square – Greed Shrine
  • Red arrow – Direction of the boss portal
  • Red skull – Boss

Additionally, powerups will also appear on the mini-map. So, if players are overwhelmed by a swarm and are unable to see any powerup that might’ve dropped, they can check out their map and head in its direction.

Set An Objective Before Starting a Run

Focus On an End Goal

In Megabonk, players can simply try runs over and over again and gradually complete more of the game. However, this can be easier to achieve if they set a goal and select their character, weapon, and tomes according to that goal.

For example, if players have their mind set on unlocking the Sniper Rifle and the requirements to unlock it require them to upgrade the Precision Tome to Level 10, they will want to pick this tome and put a lot of XP into it. Of course, it’s okay to play runs just for fun, but gamers who are trying to get most unlockables out of the way will do it a lot faster if they set goals and dedicate runs to completing them.

Analyze Your Stats at the End of a Run

Make Note of What Works and What Doesn't

Once players finish a run, they will receive a summary. This summary includes various interesting stats that players should take some time to analyze. In the center of the summary screen, they can check out how long they stayed alive, how much they were able to level up their character, and what was in their inventory – weapons, tomes, and items. On the right, they can see which quests they have completed. On the left, there is information on the level, damage, and damage per second of each of their weapons, items, and tomes.

Stats are always fun to look at, but here, they can help players quite a bit. Gamers can analyze which of their choices worked the best for their run, and figure out which combinations they should continue to try out next time. Eventually, they will be able to come up with their own perfect build for each of their favorite characters in Megabonk.
