EA has treated Battlefield 6 fans to a fresh look at some Portal mode gameplay, and there’s a lot of user-made chaos to take in. The much-anticipated shooter is mere weeks away now, and a steady drip of information from Battlefield Studios has ensured excitement remains high in the days leading up to release. In the latest glimpse at Battlefield 6, devs have shown off what aims to fix one of the last game’s biggest disappointments.
It’s no secret that 2021’s Battlefield 2042 failed to captivate the fanbase the same way that earlier entries in the series have. EA is well aware of that, but it seems confident that it will turn things around with the latest addition to the long-running franchise. DICE General Manager and Vice President Rebecka Coutaz has said that the team is aiming for Battlefield 6 to be “one of the best Battlefields” to date, and if the pre-order and open beta numbers are anything to go by, it may be on track for that.
Battlefield 6 Portal Gameplay Shows Off Raining Tanks and Chaotic Maps
The official Battlefield account shared a new video on Twitter showing off roughly 30 seconds of Battlefield 6‘s Portal mode gameplay. While the trailer is much shorter than the leaked Battlefield 6 Portal gameplay that came out in late August, it shows off some even more extreme moments. In one clip, tanks rain down onto the ground to pelt players like bombs. In another, huge squads of fighter jets duke it out over a city, filling the sky with explosions. Battlefield‘s Global Community Manager, Kevin Johnson, reposted the video and commented that the last version of Portal “scraped the surface,” but this revamped version would put another level of power into players’ hands.
EA has previously highlighted how Battlefield 6 will make Portal bigger than ever, introducing the ability to edit levels and opening a wider range of options for fans to create zany multiplayer experiences. Similar modes in other games, most notably, Halo‘s Forge mode, have been a big hit among gamers, but 2042 failed to leave much of an impression with its take on user-created levels and minigames. However, Battlefield Studios has been vocal about improving things this time around, and the newly released gameplay footage certainly looks like the mode is reaching new heights with the latest entry.
There’s now less than three weeks to go before the game is in players’ hands and they can try Portal mode out for themselves. Things are already off to a good start, with Battlefield 6 setting a series record for its largest open beta to date, but how well it can deliver on its lofty promises won’t be clear until it finally releases in full. Thankfully, that wait is coming to an end.
